The Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. is very fast and offers a large range of focal lengths. A close focusing limit of 0.3 meters at its wide-angle setting and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:3.8 at the telephoto end of the zoom range provide fascinating opportunities. Its optical image stabilisation (OIS) compensates for up to 3.5 stops of camera shake. Of the 18 elements in six moving groups, four are aspherical lens elements and 11 are elements made from glasses with anomalous partial dispersion for the correction of chromatic aberrations. Only one very light element is moved for focusing. Very fast, almost-silent, precise focusing is enabled by a specially developed drive concept comprising a stepping motor and linear positioning. This means that the overall length of the lens does not change during focusing. The rectangular form of the lens hood supplied with the lens very effectively suppresses undesirable reflections and stray light and prevents flare.
The Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 2470 f/2.8 ASPH. is equally suited to reportage, travel, studio, architectural and landscape photography, as well as portraits, close-ups, and video productions. With its extensive focal range and consistently high light sensitivity of f/2.8, the new addition is the quintessence of a universal lens. Thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio, it also represents a perfect opportunity to upgrade to the SL-System.
Group portraits, landscapes, and architecture: Whenever the scene demands a wider view, the Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35 f/3.5-4.5 ASPH. is the perfect wide-angle lens for capturing it all. With a range of focal lengths from 16 to 35 mm, this high-performance lens expands the spectrum of the existing portfolio of SL zoom lenses into the wide-angle domain.
The Summilux-SL 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. is designed to deliver maximum optical performance and establishes new benchmark standards in terms of sharpness. Thanks to internal focusing, the overall length of the lens remains unchanged when focusing.
The focal length of the fast Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280 mm f/2.8-4 is matched with the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 mm f/2.8-4 ASPH.. Together, the two lenses cover the entire focal length range of 24 to 280 mm. (Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8-4/24-90 mm ASPH. is not included in the delivery scopes.)
The APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH. has its own special qualities: they are compact and fast, and deliver outstanding performance. Their speed enables a wide range of new options, for instance the creative use of depth of field to isolate subjects from the foreground and background, showing the special bokeh Leica lenses are known for.
The APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH. has its own special qualities: they are compact and fast, and deliver outstanding performance. Their speed enables a wide range of new options, for instance the creative use of depth of field to isolate subjects from the foreground and background, showing the special bokeh Leica lenses are known for.
Over a century of passion for photography is brought together in the new Leica APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. to create a new dimension of visual aesthetics. Its focal length makes the new SL-Lens extremely versatile and recommends it for use in almost any situation – for instance, reportage and travel photography, studio work, architectural, landscape, portrait, close-up or documentary photography. As is the case with the other Summicron-SL lenses, the APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. sets standards and takes its place as the new reference lens among the standard focal lengths. Thanks to the L-Mount standard, the APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. is also fully compatible with cameras manufactured by other partners of the L-Mount Alliance that also use the lens mount developed by Leica.
Twelve extremely complex lens elements – three of which have aspherical surfaces – arranged in ten groups contribute to the ultimate in terms of image quality, even wide open. After all, Leica lenses fulfil the following promise: the maximum aperture is a working aperture. In view of this, stopping down is exclusively a creative imaging tool, and is not necessary for achieving better imaging performance. Natural skin tones, soft transitions into the bokeh, outstanding contrast in details and consistent sharpness from edge to edge of distortion-free images are further quality characteristics of lenses manufactured by Leica Camera, and also apply to the APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH.
All glass elements in an optical imaging system – for example lenses – refract light in certain colours to a different extent. This leads to the effect that not all rays of light from a multi-coloured subject are focused at a single imaging point – the result of this is chromatic aberration. In the new APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. these chromatic aberrations are minimised by apochromatic correction. For this, the majority of the lens elements used in the construction of the lens are made from specially formulated, high-quality glass types with anomalous partial dispersion that push even the innovative manufacturing methods of the Leica Factory to the limits of the technically possible.
Both the construction and the design of the cutting-edge Summicron-SL line represent the next step forward in the development of lenses for the Leica SL-System. New, extremely precise manufacturing methods and measuring technologies have been developed especially for the production of these lenses. The results of this are reflected not only in the more compact dimensions and considerably lower weight of the lenses, but also in their excellent imaging performance. In the construction of the APO-Summicron-SL lenses, particular attention has been paid to the prevention of stray light and reflections. Together with an optimisation of the optical and mechanical design, the application of high-quality coating to lens surfaces reduces unavoidable reflections to an absolute minimum. Thanks to effective sealing against dust, moisture and water spray, and AquaDura coating of the exposed lens surfaces, the lenses can be used without a second thought in almost any weather conditions.
The autofocus drive of all Summicron-SL lenses employs extremely powerful and robust stepping motors with DSD (Dual Syncro DriveTM). Thanks to these, the entire focusing throw can be travelled completely in no time at all. Leica shows its innovative powers not only in the case of autofocus technology, but also when it comes to manual focusing: Summicron-SL lenses feature a totally new concept for manual focusing in which a ring magnet with alternating north-south magnetization is embedded in the focusing ring. The magnetic field changes its polarity when the ring is turned. A sensor monitors the status of the magnetic field and sends the data to the main processor. The drive then shifts the lens to the corresponding focusing position on the basis of the angle of rotation and the rotational speed this in turn enables even faster and more precise manual focusing.
Innovative production methods and new technologies paired with exceptional imaging performance make the latest lens of the Summicron-SL series the new reference among reportage focal lengths. Thanks to the L-Mount standard used for this lens, the APO-Summicron-SL 35 mm f/2 ASPH. is also fully compatible with cameras manufactured by other partners of the L-Mount Alliance with the lens mount developed by Leica.
