The only pair of slippers is broken; the only direction known is now the empty railway track, as there will be no trains towards home. A young migrant labourer’s barefoot walk from Noida, Delhi-NCR to his home Muzzafarpur, Bihar during the country-wide lockdown, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands of migrant workers like him walked home with their families after having lost their jobs, their savings dried up, or were facing an uncertain future. Many ended up dying to accidents, hunger, and illness during this treacherous journey in the middle of the Indian summer.
