Poem in Stone:
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court
Made with Leica M10 Monochrom
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, established on 9th January 1936, is a timeless symbol of judicial excellence and architectural grandeur. The foundation stone of its current building was laid on 9th January 1937, and it was inaugurated on 6th January 1940. Described as “a poem in stone”, this sandstone structure spans 400 ft by 230 ft, featuring a central courtyard and a majestic dome rising 109 ft. It served as the High Court for the Central Provinces and Berar until the reorganization of States in 1956, when Vidarbha joined Bombay, and other districts moved under Madhya Pradesh’s jurisdiction. This masterpiece of design and history continues to inspire and preserve the legacy of India’s legal heritage.
